Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

I am a therapist by vocation, I am drawn to it. It is my passion. I’m drawn to healing people, to inspiring them to a better life. In my personal life, I am an artist. I paint oil landscapes and create paper sculptures. I have a quirky cat who alternately thinks he is a dog or a squirrel. He’s never known any other animals. My dog is a 65 pound Catahoula cur who likes to rip up paper, especially napkins.

Could you tell me more about the inspiration behind starting Bearings Therapy? What motivated you to create this website and business?

I started Bearings Therapy to treat PTSD in veterans and first responders. When I was a Marine, I served as a command operations clerk, and one of my duties was processing casualty notices for the II Marine Expeditionary Force. I processed one that stuck with me, a young Marine who had committed suicide. I wondered where his command had been? Where his sergeant had been? Where his chaplain had been? Where was his support? I wanted to be part of the solution. So I created Bearings to be part of that solution.
What types of therapy and counseling services do you offer through Bearings Therapy, and how do they cater to the needs of your clients?
My most frequent modalities are Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). However, I am experienced in other modalities, including CBT, IFS, EMDR, and SFBT, and utilize whatever is best for my client’s needs.
How do you ensure the privacy and confidentiality of your clients in an online therapy setting?
I utilize HIPAA and HITECH compliant software in my online settings.
What qualifications and experience do the therapists and counselors on your platform have?
I have an M.A. in Psychology from Chapman University and I have recently earned a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at National University. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, a CPT Provider, and a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and the International Society for the Study of Traumatic Stress, and clinical fellow of the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy.
Could you describe the technology and tools you utilize to facilitate online therapy sessions and interactions between therapists and clients?
I utilize doxy.me and zoom to facilitate sessions as well as an online platform integrated into SmplePractice. In conducting ART and EMDR I utilize bilaterateralstimulation.io to facilitate back and forth eye movement therapy.
